No. Some people think he is racist though, and this was intended to counter that notion.

No, I think that the most grounded charges come from a newsletter sent out under his name shortly after the Rodney King riots. His campaign has also received some financial donations from white supremacists. I discuss the newsletter here:

http://crasch.livejournal.com/587782.html

With respect to the newsletter, I think the author does exhibit some racist stereotypes. However, he's since apologized and more recently, has had this to say:

"Racism is simply an ugly form of collectivism, the mindset that views humans strictly as members of groups rather than individuals. Racists believe that all individuals who share superficial physical characteristics are alike: as collectivists, racists think only in terms of groups. By encouraging Americans to adopt a group mentality, the advocates of so-called "diversity" actually perpetuate racism. Their obsession with racial group identity is inherently racist.
...
More importantly, in a free society every citizen gains a sense of himself as an individual, rather than developing a group or victim mentality. This leads to a sense of individual responsibility and personal pride, making skin color irrelevant. Rather than looking to government to correct our sins, we should understand that racism will endure until we stop thinking in terms of groups and begin thinking in terms of individual liberty."

With respect to the white supremacist donations, I think that a presidential campaign of any size is going to get some unsavory donors. Paul's donations in the fourth quarter so far have come from over 85,000 donors, each of whom donated about $95 on average. It's impractical to try to vet so many donors.

Cool. So if I think in terms of statistical trends instead of absolutes, I'm not a racist.

I watched the whole thing and didn't see any racism. What did I miss?

Nothing. The title was intended to be tongue in cheek.

Tongue in cheek never seems to come across, on the internet. That's ok -- I figured it out!

Even though I am not crazy about Ron Paul, I really couldn't find anything to disagree with; this wouldn't signal "racist" to me in the slightest (except in the sense of "human race"). But I suspect this is to silence the people who do think Dr. Paul is a racist.

Yeah, that was the intent.

haha! I feel happy that I recognized the tongue in cheek right away; I haven't even watched the video yet.

Or, actually, it may be less recognizing tongue in cheek and more being of the belief that had he actually come out with something racist, you'd have something more to say than that title, so since you *hadn't* then the title could only be...

Yes! I'm glad you got it. I guess tongue in cheek comes across less readily than I expected.

Just for a second...

This is not the time for RP to self-destruct by saying something stupid, even something that that gets taken out of context. The guy is not stupid or crazy like everyone who is scared of him wishes him to be.

You just described 85% of the human race -95% of Americans. Hell, those of us who are not fascist assholes should be happy if RP gets the stupid & crazy vote!
