Previous Entry Share Next Entry

I'm programming in Ruby on Windows. After working on the Mac, I find the Command Prompt counter-intuitive. In particular, I would like to be able to resize the screen size arbitrarily without changing the preferences and use Ctl-C, Ctrl-V cut n paste commands. I'm aware of Monad/Power-shell, but I don't want to have to learn another shell language. Cygwin has the same issues as the Windows prompt. What alternatives do you Windows folk recommend, if anything?

Thanks! I'm interacting with a ruby interpreter, so I would still have to cut and paste from the interpreter to notepad.

Do you know if irb can run in rxvt? If so, would you point me to a recipe for it?

I don't have a windows box available to test, but irb should work the same as it does in any console. Type 'irb' or 'irb18' or whatever the executable in your path is.

Thanks! I ran into the problem described here:

http://www.pluitsolutions.com/2006/03/30/install-ruby-on-rails-ror-on-cygwin/

At this point, I can see how I can get irb working under cygwin, but it's not clear yet how to get cygwin's version of irb to know about the wet/watir gems (installed by the WET one-click installer).

I'm writing scripts for Watir, which drives the IE brower. Therefore, running Linux doesn't help.

What shell would you recommend?

Well, if you run IE under Linux via Wine...
