Michael Jackson is dead

Michael Jackson is dead. As well as Madeleine L’Engle, Paul MacCready, and of course, Luciano Pavarotti.

I’m not into beer or opera, so neither the death of Jackson or Pavarotti had much emotional impact for me.

But L’Engle was partially responsible for instilling a love of literature at an early age. I remember reading a Wrinkle in Time under the covers of my bunk bed, wishing that I could have hot cocoa with Meg, Charles Wallace, and Mrs. Whatsit.

And McCready’s win of the Kremer prize influenced me to leave cryonics and work on prize institution design. I plan to establish a similar prize for cryonics someday.

Sigh. Must work faster.
