02:18 am - Open Source Yoga

http://www.yogaunity.org/

OUR MISSION

Open Source Yoga Unity (OSYU), a nonprofit California corporation, was formed to provide a common voice, and the pooling of resources, to oppose the litigious position Bikram Choudhury is taking against the Yoga community by his attempted enforcement of copyright protection.

It is OSYU's mandate to resist the enforcement of the copyright protection of any Yoga style thereby ensuring its continued natural unfettered practice for all to enjoy and develop.

While we appreciate the teachings of Bikram Choudhury, he does not have the legal right to impose control over another's Yoga teaching or practice. Yoga exists in the public domain.

Each of Bikram's beginning yoga class poses has existed in the public domain for many - many years. These and other Yoga asanas are constantly being performed in varying sequences, none of which are ownable under Copyright law.

Bikram can lay no claim to the uniqueness or ownership of Bikram's beginning yoga asanas as they were taught to him by his guru and his school in India, which has made public statements regarding the free offering of yoga to all people.

02:52 am - Mencken's Creed

Courtesy of Eirikur Hallgrimsson:

" Mencken was a crusading newspaperman who would frequently but heads with the
censorious Boston establishment in the early part of the 20th century.
I was researching his involvement with "the Hatrack story" when I came
across this.

Mencken's Creed

I believe that religion, generally speaking, has been a curse to mankind -
that its modest and greatly overestimated services on the ethical side have
been more than overcome by the damage it has done to clear and honest
thinking.

I believe that no discovery of fact, however trivial, can be wholly useless
to the race, and that no trumpeting of falsehood, however virtuous in
intent, can be anything but vicious.

I believe that all government is evil, in that all government must
necessarily make war upon liberty...

I believe that the evidence for immortality is no better than the evidence
of witches, and deserves no more respect.

I believe in the complete freedom of thought and speech...

I believe in the capacity of man to conquer his world, and to find out what
it is made of, and how it is run.

I believe in the reality of progress.

I - But the whole thing, after all, may be put very simply. I believe that
it is better to tell the truth than to lie. I believe that it is better to
be free than to be a slave. And I believe that it is better to know than be
ignorant."
