02:54 pm - Nuclear War Survival Skills
In the 19th century, the U.S. endured the Civil War. In the 20th century, WWI and WWII. (Plus a number of "minor" conflicts, Spanish-American War, Korean War, Vietnam, Gulf War I/II). Although I hope that we can avoid it, it seems wise to prepare for conflicts of similar or greater magnitude in the 21st century. Most of this stuff would be useful preparations for other natural/man-made disasters in any case.
03:06 pm - Self-teaching curriculum
If I ever have children, I'm seriously considering homeschooling them. So I was intrigued when I stumbled across a couple of home-school curriculums that claim to offer a complete K-12 education, yet only require an hour or so of direct parental involvement/day.
Although they seem to be all designed by Christian ideologues, and would therefore probably require some supplementation and editing, I should look into them in the future:
Hmmmm...the Robinson Curriculum seems to be getting mixed reviews.
