my son has ADD and takes ritalin. this is very exciting news for me because it means that soon, doctors will be able to test (albeit expensively) for the gene combination and precribe the right med with more accuratcy.

as far as meth users, i was watching an HBO documentary last week about meth addiction, and did you know that only 6% of meth users ever manage to kick it? And the damage meth causes to the pleasure-sensing capacity of the hypothalamus is permanent?

i would have to categorize myself in one of the groups that amphetamine improves mental performance in. i can't count the number of academic successes i have had thanks to prescription diet pills. (the secret's out)

I can beleive meth causes permanent damage. If stress alone can cause brain damage, it's not surprising that taking an active drug would also cause damage.

Interesting. Paul Erdos, a very productive mathematician, attributed his profligacy to amphetamine use. Which brands did/do you use? What was it like to be on them?
